  1. Oh, I’ve seen this book in the store and thought about picking it up…

Let’s see, the special animal that touched my life was my cat, Misha. I won’t make this too long but I lived in New Orleans and when the hurricane hit I was out of town for 2 days with my cat home alone. I was terrified that she was dead and I wasn’t allowed back in the city to find her. A whole month later my landlord was allowed back in and called me saying that she found my cat. The hurricane had broken a window in my apartment and she escaped outdoors and was living under the building eating who knows what. She had lost half her body weight but was alive and thrilled to be found. We’ve been inseparable ever since, but she now gets very scared any time there’s a thunderstorm.

  2. My special animal is my first cat that I ever had. He was Wiley, and I found him in a pet store. This cat was the love of my life. He was special b/c he got cancer in his eye. One day it was "cloudy" and I took him to the vet. The vet told me he needed surgery and gave me a recommendation. I ended up taking his eye out for 1000.00. He had to wear a "cone" to protect his eye. While at work he took it off, not to scratch the stitches or anything, he just hated it. So I left it off. He would curl around my head to sleep. It was so gross smelling from dried blood and stuff. I did not care. Either way he healed and a year almost to the date he died from cancer anyhow. I extended his one year and This was the hardest thing I ever did, watch my beloved pet Wiley die in my arms. I cry now and it happened over ten years ago.

  4. Oh, I want to read this book! My feline soulmate is my dearly departed Tigger, who died in 2006. It still hurts, even now. He was 8 yrs old when my best friend at the time told me that she was going to drop him off at the humane society "unless I wanted to have him". I couldn't very well let him be put to sleep at the shelter because she was being inconvenienced by him! So, I took him. He was kind of an ornery cat when she had him, but I think it was because he was so deprived of love and affection. He became a totally different cat! He ended up having a negative reaction to vaccinations and nearly died. Long story short, I read a plethora of books on naturopathy and raw diets and put him on a holistic homemade raw diet and turned his life around. He ended up living another eight years with lots of love lavished on him! There will never be another like him. I currently have three cats, and even though I love them all, none can ever take his place!

Whew! Sorry for the novel :)

  5. Not entering, but I just wanted to say that I loved this book. My mom had me read it because she knows how much I love cats. They've made it into a picture book now, but I couldn't bring myself to buy it because I know if I did that I'd be crying every time I read it to my kids!

  6. I have a lot of allergies so the only pet I ever had was a gold fish. It didn't do anything but swim around the small tank!

  8. A special animal who touched my life? I have to say it's Kobo, our kitty who died about 7 years ago. We got him when he was a kitten, trying to steal some food which my mom left us just after we drove her to the airport.

At first we didn’t really want a kitty especially the one who tried to steal our food! LOL but aw.. he just melted our hearts away and then we decided to keep him because he seemed lonely and harmless *grin

He proved to be such a darling. We all mourn for him after his death and my youngest sister actually wrote a poem for him and keep her pic with Kobo in her special photo album. Isn’t that sweet?

We never got another kitty, though. He still keeps a special place in our heart and no kitty could replace him..

  9. Unfortunately (and quite unfairly if you ask me) I am allergic to all animals with fur, so I've never really had a chance to get close to any. However, when I was a kid there was a seagull that used to come sit on our verandah and wait for us to feed him. He had been hit by a car and lost one of his legs, but my mother fed him and protected him from other birds while he recovered, and he kept coming back to us every summer for a decade. We called him Gull (yes, very original) and he had such a strong personality. He would eat from our hands and answer us when we talked to him. My father complained about this bird hanging around and making noises, but when Mum and I were out of the house, he would sit outside and feed him.

Gull is the closest thing I've ever had to a pet, and although he's been gone for many years now, I still miss him every summer.

  11. The family cat was wonderful. She always seemed to know when and where you are hurting, and managed to sit on that spot and try to help you. Does your head hurt? She'd sit on your face. Does your tummy hurt? She'd curl up with you next to your tummy. She was great.

  12. My pet dog Winky was a cute, chubby puppy who filled my heart with love just by looking at him. He's a great friend and a great companion.
